my test alkaline batteries charged!

Current Mood: happy
well i tested and charged all my alkaline batteries now.
here is a picture what i used.

it has a max charge of 160Ma so it wont destroy the batteries. works real well i did a 5 hour charge today in 2 of these chargers. and im still playing them in my cd plater now.. going for about 1 hour 30 min. and its still full.. so i suspect the battery is about 80% full after this type of charge.
you can never tell how strong these type of batteries usally are so i just go by Ma time.. ill just keep it at a max 5 hours.. if it discharges fast then ill leave them in longer.

but yes it works :) and no special chargers needed. like i told someone else in the older post he was pushing another charger that sucks. i tried those other alkaline chargers before and they are usally junk.. most of the time never working fueling the big companys even more.
all the cells i used were completely flat.. no power at all!! and this brought em back as if they were new.

so yeah im happy.

Glad you figured this out. Will the standard slow-rate Ni-Cad chargers that the local Mart has work and what kind of shelf life is there? I would be even happier if the lithium 123 batteries that are so expensive would recharge that my camera takes. I knew from high school chem that you could rub them between your hands and get them to static recharge slightly, but thought the original voltage was chemically induced and would deplete and leave an slight short inside that would bleed off any replenished charge over a short period of time. For example you can't recharge an old lemon anode and cathode homemade battery after the pH changes. If you can figure out how to revive these old lead acid, ni-cad, cadmium ion or lithium ion bats (thinking of my useless dewalt drill) that have already past their useful life you could save the consumers millions. Just a thought, keep up the good work.

well after many forced discharges and recharges they seem to slowly go down. *sigh* its up to 5 cycles now from flat to charge. but charge now to 50%

i used energizers for this test. since the real cheap ones wont even do another charge. those batteries feel real light.
i could leave them in longer like instead of 5 hours try 20 hours.
the only way you can charge them if you want to try.. find a charger that does trickle chargeing.. 180 to 200MA max. most other chargers see these and label them as bad. since they have a high resestance to high current chargeing.

as for fixing ni-cads ive done that.. i blasted them with a 7 am current for a few minutes and wiped that memory from them. i have old 600Ma ni-cads used to charge to 320Ma and after the blast they hit 620Ma.
however i lost 2 of them in the process of that test. they blew sky high. li-ions those i stay away from.. the charge rate of those seem to be like 300Ma max and thats it.. once they go dead thats it they are gone. plus i dislike the lithium in a battery.. heh drive a nail in one and you will see flames come out.
as for lead acid if it can be opened and the chambers exposed like an old car lead acid.. i used to do a trick of pouring a small amount of water in the chambers. it works for a while.. or sometimes for many months.
however im really hooked on these new batteries that came out you might like called eneloop. they are nimh rechargeables with a low self discharge.. i have the same ones sitting for one year and they are still charged. even when in use they seem to last real long. they go past alkaline batteries. you can get those either on the net or at the source.

but yeah your drill battery i bet if you open the battery up its just a bunch of 1.2 AA cells in there or something. most seem to do that now. i can get battery connectors and make another. or put those nimh ones in no more memory issues.
